A Software Implementation of a Computer-Controlled Ophthalmic Refraction System.

Abstract

A software implementation of an experimental ophthalmic refraction system is discussed in detail. The software is designed to provide an optomerist with a system capable of discerning the patients' refractive error with a resulting prescription suggested. All design considerations are discussed with specific implementation strategies stressed. The problems for eventaully upgrading the system to a multi-patient system and the necessity for present multi-task capabilities are discussed. Storage strategies, overlay capabilities and scheduling algorithms are described in detail. All of these sections are combined to form a flexible and efficient ophthalmic refraction system. (Author)
