Shipboard Cruise Report on Leg Five of Expedition South Tow.

Abstract

Fifteen and one-half days of a 21-day cruise were devoted to deep-tow surveys of the central part of the Carnegie Ridge, midway between the Galapagos Islands and the Ecuadorian mainland. For the remainder of that time standard underway geophysical programs were carried out. The deep-tow instrument package was used to explore phenomena caused by erosion and transportation of pelagic sediments, at depth of 2 to 3 km. Information from its seismic and photographic systems was supplemented by five current meter stations and eight gravity cores. (Author)
