Electrical Propulsion Machinery Study.

Abstract

The report covers the design analysis of electrical propulsion machinery suitable for naval propulsion applications. The primary objectives of this study were to identify the technical problem areas in the machines analyzed, and to develop methods of solving these problems. In addition, machine design techniques were developed, allowing the optimization of those machine parameters which are of particular importance in naval propulsion applications. These parameters include dimensions, weight, efficiency, transient performance, and safety. Designs of typical propulsion motors and generators were developed for each of the machine types studied. Sufficient detail is included to allow evaluation of the merits of the various types of machines.
