Sensitivity Fundamentals.

Abstract

The report summarizes a six-month period of research on the relationship between detonation phenomena, chemical structure, and kinetics for isomeric dinitropropanes and other nitroalkanes. Research on dinitroalkanes is being carried out in three areas: high velocity detonation (HVD), low velocity detonation (LVD), and static high pressure and kinetic effects. Failure diameter measurements for three dinitroalkanes show an alpha-hydrogen effect, and a large methylene effect as well. The detonation of the following compounds were studied: 1,1-dinitropropane, 1,1-dinitroethane, and 1,1,1-fluorodinitroethane.
