Abstract
The arrangement of ribs both with respect to the median surface (inner or outer) and with respect to the lines of principal curvature has an appreciable effect on the value of critical load of a stiffened shell. The effect of internal or external arrangement of ribs with respect to the median surface on the value of the critical load of a stiffened shell is considered.
