Integral Evaluation of Television Picture Quality,
Abstract
Questions concerning the formulation of a subjective evaluation of television picture quality are elucidated on the basis of data in the literature and experimental materials. The results of investigating the sensory characteristics of the visual analysor, establishing the connection between the physical parameters of the picture and the subjective evaluation of the quality of its reproduction, are cited. The character of the stochastic response of the visual analysor is described. An approach is formulated towards simulation of the subjective evaluation of picture quality on the basis of an integral criterion corresponding to the control algorithm of the visual analysor. The sensory characteristics of the visual analysor are given for the linear parameters of the television system and for the parameters of fluctuation noise. (Author)
