Experimental Model of an Autoreduction Leveling Instrument with a Two-Direction Axis of Sight,

Abstract

A leveling instrument has been developed in the Geodesy Department of the Leningrad Mining Institute. The instrument automatically establishes its axis of sight in a horizontal position in two dimensions. A basic design characteristic is an optical attachment to the periscopic telescope. This attachment makes it possible to sight the rods at the forward and rear sighting positions from the same observer's position, reducing the number of movements of the observer and thus the work time at a station. In addition, the optical-mechanical spring compensator used stabilizes the position of the visual axis permitting the leveler to be used on unstable soils.
