Interfacial Chemical Reactions in Flow Systems.

Abstract

The report very briefly summarizes the results of a 38 month basic research program at Yale University dealing with kinetic and transport factors governing interfacial mass transfer rates in high temperature systems. Specific cases studied in considerable detail are solute loss or gain by metals, the evaporation and combustion of liquid fuels (including metals), oxidation of solids leading to volatile reaction products, and sphere dissolution or growth in fluids. These phenomena are a central part of almost all advanced propulsion systems.
