On the Design of a Remotely Controlled Intelligent Telemetry Device.

Abstract

NTATION ARE PRESENTED FOR A DEVICE WHOSE FUNCTION IS THE INITIATION AND RELAYING OF DATA MESSAGES. The device can be controlled, in terms of programmable parameters, remotely via communication channels. The three major components of the device are two transceivers and an elementary computer. The device, termed the Standard Telemetry Device in the report, is intended to serve as an interface between a transducer and communication channels in a surveillance, or data collection, network. For this reason surveillance networks are first considered from a systems point of view in order to better focus on problems which the Standard Telemetry Device can help overcome. Once this systems analysis has pointed up the particular problems which the device can help to solve, then a hardware configuration to implement such a device is presented. The report concludes with a rough estimate of the Standard Telemetry Device, based on the hardware configuration. (Author)
