Edge Bores.

Abstract

An experimental program was conducted to determine features of a wave impinging at a small angle on a sloping beach. The near shore region of such a wave can be treatly amplified in height over the offshore portion. The nature of this amplification and the conditions under which breaking occurs were investigated. Empirical prediction rules were derived. It was concluded that such a wave effect poses a possible threat to the harbor shoreline facilities. (Author)
