Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Hardware.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a study to determine the applicability and effectiveness of commercially available EMP protective devices for the hardening of typical Civil Defense communication systems against the EMP resulting from an exo-atmospheric nuclear burst. The study was limited to the rf side of communication equipments with operating frequencies in the range of 100 kHz-100 MHz. Representative EMP-induced transients are presented and used as general guidance for determining the effectiveness of the recommended hardening techniques. (Author)
