An Exact Shock Wave Solution to Burgers' Equation for Parametric Excitation of the Boundary.

Abstract

Using the saddle point method of integration an exact plane wave solution for Burgers' equation has been found in the shock zone when the boundary is either driven sinusoidally at two different frequencies and amplitudes or by an amplitude modulated sinusoid. The solution can be extended to the spherical case. This result can be useful in predicting extra loss for parametric arrays operating with shock formation in the near field. (Author)
