Strength Results for Two Brittle Materials under Biaxial Stresses.

Abstract

Strength results for graphite and a filled epoxy material are reported for all four stress quadrants. A new test method was developed for this work. Different specimen gage lengths were employed and strength magnitudes were found to be quite dependent upon this goemetrical parameter for biaxial compressive stresses. Comparisons of the current and past data also are made. Internal friction criteria are suggested as being suitable for predicting the strength behavior of the two test materials. (Author-PL)
