Design Feasibility Study of the VHF Transmitter Time-Sharing System.

Abstract

The study was undertaken to investigate the theoretical and experimental feasibility of time-sharing the voice-modulated output of several collocated transmitters and receivers based on encouraging results with VHF transmitters. The theory of time-sharing operation is generally applicable to any transmitters but the design effort and trade-off study of performance variables were largely based on a specific transmitter model with its unique AM characteristics. The experimental results of this work are in good agreement with the theoretical computations and lend encouragement to the further exploitation of this time-sharing scheme for operational use with prescribed allowances for some spectral-spreading effects. S set of system parameters has been optimized for the operation of four transmitter/receiver pairs in time-sharing mode. (Author)
