Analysis of an Aeronautical Satellite Evaluation and Development System.

Abstract

The background for an evaluation and development aeronautical satellite is presented. A set of operational use concepts to be tested is developed. Various practical combinations of voice communications, data link communications, automatic position reporting, and ground based surveillance are outlined. With these are associated the access methods of direct seizing of available channels by users, request by users for central control to assign them a channel, and polling of users by central control. Various modes of dedicating or sharing various numbers of channels among sectors, OCCs, and earth terminals are proposed. Return channels in excess of forward channels are considered. Various modes of ground data management are proposed. (Author Modified Abstract)
