Acousto-Optic Interactions.

Abstract

The document reports the results of the experimental and theoretical investigation of acousto-optic interactions in guided wave structure for optical modulation, deflection and signal processing applications. It includes a theoretical calculation of the diffraction efficiency between guided optical waves and acoustic surface waves and experimental results of isotropic and anisotropic diffraction in LiNbO3 and quartz. A simple acousto-optic plate modulator and electronically tunable acoustic-optic filter by acoustic surface waves has been demonstrated. The optical and acoustical properties of CVD ZnO films on sapphire, which may be needed for the acousto-optic devices in thin films are also included. (Author)
