The Development of Techniques for Operational Exploitation of Satellite Infrared Channel Radiances in the Resolution of Atmospheric Thermal-Structure Variabilities. Task One: Perspective.

Abstract

The report describes the development of techniques for operational exploitation of satellite infrared channel radiances in the resolution of atmospheric thermal-structure variables. The first step is to develop a perspective: position and orientation. The gaol is information useful in a comprehensive weather analysis and forecasting system. Of primary interest are satellite measurements in radiance channels selected in strongly absorbing bands of a gas of uniform air mixing ratio (e.g., the 15-micron band of Carbon Dioxide).
