Ionospheric Heating Analysis.

Abstract

The HF excited plasma line is observed to fluctuate by an order of magnitude about its mean value, the downshifted decay line being about 4/3 the amplitude of the upshifted line. The results obtained by Kantor on the role of the Airy function in explaining one form of the fluctuations has been confirmed. Red line enhancement and suppression in the airglow have been observed. In addition to enhancements of the plasma at and near the plasma line frequency and at the ion line frequency, enhancements have been observed at the electron gyro- frequency and at twice this frequency.
