Structural Stability for the Riccati Equation,

Abstract

A variant of the notion of structural stability of Thom is introduced for the Riccati equation. The author demonstrates a theorem which resolves structural stability for the Riccati equation, and gives a clearer picture of certain algebraic pathology of the equilibrium solution. These pathologies are shown to be structurally unstable and, hence, computationally irrelevant. (Author)
