Information Encoding in Training for Efficient Access in Memory.
Abstract
Coding processes involved in storing and retrieving information in event, simple associative, and serial associative learning were examined in experiments and literature-reviews reported in four presentations to scientific meetings, one review of quantitative theory in press, and nine scientific articles in preparation. A new technique for identifying and analysing trainee-determined coding units in serial learning and the 'access cues' to these units provides a promising methodology for detecting learner organization of serial tasks and compatible management of training schedules. Other studies extend and refine the hypothesis that encoding variability during learning, as contrasted with rote repetition, is beneficial for long-term recall. (Author Modified Abstract)
