Experimental Programs with the BRL Tandem Van de Graaff and Cockcroft-Walton Accelerators.

Abstract

An additional year of investigations with the BRL Tandem Van de Graaff and Cockcroft-Walton accelerator facilities has been completed. Research has been continued in many areas and this report describes the status of experiments in progress. It also indicates actual or planned research in areas where results have not yet been obtained. Studies in neutron physics, neutron production and cross section measurements, charged-particle and heavy-ion reactions, gamma-ray decay and polarization, delayed-fission isomers, radiation chemistry, and radiation physics are discussed. During the year, a substantial effort has been continued at both accelerators for facility development. These additions to the facility capabilities are described in some detail for the benefit of potential users and for staff reference. Information is also provided on accelerator performance, personnel, publications, and cooperative programs with universities and with other Army researchers. (Author)
