UND MDHELHAT 1 - The Effect of Observer Position on Target Detection. Technical memo.,Barnes,John A. ;HEL-TM-7-73(*target discrimination, *performance(human)), (*aerial reconnaissance, surface targets), flight testing, performance(human), human factors engineering, statistical analysisA flight experiment was performed to determine the effect of the observer's position in a helicopter on his ability to detect ordnance targets. The positions tested were: left seat, front seat and rear seat. The 34 U. S. Army pilot subjects each flew two trial flights in opposite directions over a three-leg course at Coso Military Target Range, Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California.
