The Steady State Configuration of a Towed System Negotiating a Turn.

Abstract

The report concerns the three-dimensional analysis of the steady state motion of a towline and towed body moving through water. The theoretical development is based on the assumptions that the towline is continuous, inextensible, and flexible. Particular attention is given to the effect on the configuration of the system caused by the towing ship negotiating a turn. Use is made of the analysis and the digital computer programs developed to determine the configuration of a typical towed system in a straight run.
