Studies on Local Immunosuppression in Skin Grafting.

Abstract

Studies on the mechanism of local immunotherapeautic reactions to skin cancer in man and experimental studies in mice are discussed. Previous experiments have demonstrated that regressions of premalignant and malignant epidermal tumors could be induced by immunotherapeutic approaches. These results have been confirmed by others, and extended to include regressions of several other types of cancer and lymphomas in man and in experimental animals. These malignant diseases in man included malignant melanoma, Kaposi' hemorrhagic sarcoma, adrenocarcinoma of the breast, epidermoid carcinoma of the lower female genitourinary tract, mycosis fungoides, and reticulum cell sarcoma. Previous findings of the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of combining immunotherapy with chemotherapy were confirmed and extended from the local to the systemic level.
