JOHNIE BOY Crater Calculations.

Abstract

A two dimensional plastic-elastic computation of the JOHNIE BOY cratering event was performed. The material model was constructed from average alluvium properties at other NTS sites. Advanced computer techniques made it possible to compute to 0.8 second of real time at a modest expenditure of computer hours. The computed crater was slightly larger than that of the experiment. The computed ground motion, however, failed to predict the rebound feature recorded by the experimental velocity gauges. (Author)
