Static Output Characteristics of a Beam Deflection Fluid Amplifier.

Abstract

A large scale model of a fluid amplifier was investigated to determine the receiver pressure, receiver flow, and vent flow characteristics for different values of power jet deflection and receiver loading. The differential pressure gain of the model was found to be the largest when the receiver load obstructed approximately 70% of the receiver output area. Limited experiments performed to determine the effect of the receiver-vent geometry on the blocked load pressure recovery showed that an open center dump and a slight sweepback of the exterior receiver wall improved the gain and the linearity of the differential pressure recovery characteristic. A control volume analysis used to predict the receiver pressures and flows yielded results which agreed reasonably well with experimental values for small receiver loads. (Author)
