The Data Base Task Group Report: An Illustrative Example,

Abstract

The 1971 Data Base Task Group (DBTG) Report is discussed in terms of a complex example. The stages through which a user of a DBTG system would go, namely developing a data structure, describing that data structure in the DBTG Schema DDL, specifying a subset of the data structure, for use in a particular application, in the Sub-Schema DDL, and writing an application program using COBOL and the DBTG Data Manipulation Language, are presented. The example presented was chosen to illustrate many of the complex data structuring and data manipulation mechanisms in the DBTG proposal. (Author)
