On Solving the Spherical Transfer Equation,

Abstract

The diffusion of photons is described by the radiation transfer equation, which in the general case is an integral-differential equation. Many approximate methods have been developed for solving this equation, yet an accurate solution has not yet been found for the case of a gray plane-parallel layer or a half-space. In the present article the author examines two approximate methods for solving the transfer equation in the spherical case.
