Kinetics of Synthesis and Decomposition Reactions of Ionic Compounds Containing N-F Cations.

Abstract

Further work on NF4AsF6 has been conducted using isotopic exchange methods. AsF5 exchanges 100 percent with six fluorine atoms of NF4AsF6 at 25C in three hours. Exchange is believed to occur via the salt NF4(+)As2F11(-), for which evidence has been obtained in the form of pressure-composition data. Matrix isolation studies have been conducted on the thermal decomposition of Cl2F((+)AsF6(-) at -90C. No evidence was found for the existence of products other than ClF = AsF5. From the reaction of N2O5 and CF3CHO a new compound has been obtained which may be perfluoro peroxyacetyl nitrate. The F19 nmr spectrum consisted of a single line at 82.9 ppm. The infrared spectrum was complex. (Author)
