An Improved Quality Assurance Acceptance Test for the XM-1 Additive Liner by Use of Thermogravimetry.

Abstract

The percent TiO2 and wax in the additive mixture that is coated onto a rayon liner to form the XM-1 additive liner must be determined as part of the quality assurance acceptance test for this item. The currently used gravimetric procedure is cumbersome and time consuming. In the report a rapid single-step procedure utilizing thermogravimetry is described. The three determinations required for each batch of additive mixture was completed in fifteen minutes with this procedure, and the percent of TiO2 and wax in all three samples is read directly onto a single sheet of chart paper.
