Development of a VHF Multiturn Loop Antenna for Seismic Sensor Systems.

Abstract

The multiturn loop antenna is evaluated as a low profile replacement for the 1/4 wavelength monopole presently in use with VHF seismic sensor systems. It is found that for some conditions of operation the pattern level of the loop may exceed that of the 1/4 wavelength monopole. The Wheeler method of efficiency measurement is developed as an aid in evaluating the multiturn loop. Low angle antenna patterns are shown for the various antennas tested. Experimental results of parametric variations of the multiturn loop are included. A technique for earth permittivity measurements and experimental results are described. (Author)
