Basic Principles for Formulation of a General Theory of Reliability,
Abstract
Formulas and cause-and-effect relationships (diagrammed) are given; increasing quality always involves acting on first causes (potential properties) along a feedback path, which ordinarily occurs after estimates are begun on operational reliability of the auto design in various stages of use. In estimating operational reliability of designs and seeking optimum solutions for measurements one must consider the entire expenditure for producing autos and for their upkeep. This requires standardization of the measurements of potential and operational properties of reliability in the design stage, and analysis of subsequently occuring expenditures during operation for maintaining reliability. A conditional functional expression is given as a basic, original theoretical premise in analysis of the system and establishment of interaction of reliability measurements with internal and external factors.
