Human Factors Engineering Design of Ammunition Production Line Rockeye MK 20
Abstract
The man-machine interfaces are redesigned on an ammunition production assembly line to provide the best possible human factors configuration of each work station. Machinery was to be redesigned to achieve integration of the human and machines with emphasis on the abilities, capacities, and limitations of the human body. Areas of human factors engineering considered: personnel work space (equipment arrangement, seating, layout of panels, etc.), materials handling (lifting, carrying, reaching, tools, etc.), physical environment of personnel (illumination, ventilation, noise, vibration), design of controls (information input and output devices, location, size, spacing of switches, push buttons, cranks, levers, handwheels, etc.), and industrial safety. Recommendations are based on evaluation of the human factors aspects of each work station, studied by the method of a comprehensive checklist, production observation, and operator interviews.
