A Budget Simulation Model of Materiel Handling Requirements,

Abstract

The large scale simulation model predicts the materiel handling requirements within the Naval Ordnance Systems Command in budgetary terms. The model provides aggregated projections backed up with the detailed information necessary for budget justification and is sensitive to the dynamic interactions between the ten ordnance stations and the fleet force level structure. The budget forecast is based on the functional relationships that exist between the different stations and includes both probabilistic and deterministic elements. The simulation model was programmed in GPSS 5 combined with external processing. In addition to standard validation procedures, confidence intervals are calculated for each functional estimate.
