Symposium on the Management of Radio-Active Wastes from Fuel Reprocessing, Paris, 27 Nov to 1 Dec 1972.

Abstract

Described is a symposium which covered current and recommended future practices in the storage of radioactive wastes arising from reprocessing of fuels from nuclear power-plants. Included was the magnitude of local release of radionuclides and their global impact. Techniques of solidification of high level wastes and subsequent storage in appropriate terrestrial locations were discussed. The main criterion for acceptable reprocessing and storage procedures is that they should not create larger quantities of radioactivity than currently exists in the natural background. (Author)
