PDP-8 Computer Interfaces for Tropospheric Propagation Measurements

Abstract

Interfaces for a PDP-8 computer used in Tropospheric propagation research have been developed to provide communication with and control over the real-time radio equipment. The report describes the work and that was done on these interfaces and provides an understanding of their operation. The characteristics of the Input/Output bus of the PDP-8 computer and the digital circuit modules used in the implementation of the interfaces are provided as background for the discussions of the interfaces. Each of the interfaces is described with at least three sections: a general description of its function, a specific description of the Input/Output commands used by it and the functions they perform, and a discussion of the interface as it is implemented.
