Updating and Upgrading the Dekameter Wavelength Patrol System.
Abstract
A fast sweeping interferometric radiometer system forsolar dekameter observation has been developed which sweeps from 24 MHz to 48 MHz in 10 msec. The revolutionary concept of using the interferometric fringe pattern for phase coherent detection has been applied. As a result of the digital techniques employed, an angular resolution in the order of a tenth of a degree can be achieved with a 300-m base line and a pair of low cost, semibicone antennae. The 1968 solar ephemeris is calculated for the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories Radio Astronomy Observatory, Sagamore Hill, Hamilton, Mass. Ionospheric refraction on 24 MHz for the entire year 1968 has been calculated as a function of the F2 layer critical frequency. (Author)
