Radomes, Advanced Design.

Abstract

The subject of radome design has received during these last years increasing attention from both basic researchers and applied engineers, because it was found that the state of the art in this area was somewhat behind the level required by modern aircraft or missle design, especially for military use. A large number of papers have now been published on the subject, and experimental research performed along a number of directions: but despite this, there appears a need for a homogeneous and synthesizing summary of present capabilities, techniques of design and possibly, of difficulties still existing. This particularly evident when the task of training new engineers in the field is attempted: it can be very difficult to perform an updated training, inclusive of experiences made by other centers of radome design, following a basic, 'universal' radome design methodology. The report, realized by an international team of experts in this field under the sponsorship of AGARD, has the aim of performing a first attempt in this direction.
