Frequencies and Durations of Surface Temperatures in Hot-Dry Climatic Category Areas (Cat. 4, AR 70-38).

Abstract

The report presents results of a study of surface temperatures and durations of extreme surface temperatures at selected stations in the hot-dry regions of the world as defined in category 4 of Army Regulation 70-38. The distribution of temperatures at and above the 5-percent probability level and their durations above 110 and 115F in the warmest months (April through October) of the year is depicted. The 110 and 115F temperature thresholds were selected for their significance to research and development of missle systems. Included in this report are levels of the temperature exceeded 1 and 5 percent of the time, distributions of the temperature at critical frequency levels, and durations of critical temperature thresholds.
