Application of New Process Technology to the Manufacture of Hot-Wound Springs

Abstract

The feasibility of using induction heating and concomitant quenching for hot winding large helical springs was established. A full-scale experimental system was assembled, and M140 gun mount counterrecoil springs were coiled from three different materials. Springs with proper load-carrying capacity were produced from each of the materials.
