On Indirect Pressure Estimation from Measurements of Height and Temperature.

Abstract

ELOPMENT TECHNICAL REPT.,Miller,Walter B. ;ECOM-5482DA-1-T-061102-B-53-A1-T-061102-B-53-A-18(*barometric pressure, mathematical prediction), atmospheric temperature, windThe problem of estimation of atmospheric pressure at measured heights when related temperature observations are available is considered, particularly with regard to the intrinsic error properties of two commonly used forms of estimators. Results include theoretical comparisons and tables of intrinsic error values for consistent values of height and temperature variances. It is found that within the error ranges considered, the intrinsic error of pressure estimates is below those values often stated for the pressure sensor of the radiosonde package. (Author)
