Safety Evaluation - Artillery, Mortar and Recoilless Rifle Ammunition.

Abstract

The report describes safety evaluation test procedures applicable to all ammunition for field and antiaircraft, tank guns, recoilless rifles and mortars. Although primarily oriented toward explosive-loaded projectiles, procedures for non-explosive projectiles are included. The report covers safety evaluation of launch, flight and environmental hazards as well as compatibility of the ammunition with the weapon system. Test phases include propellant check-out, metal parts check-out storage test, transportation, and rough handling and supplemental tests. Excludes nuclear weapon projectiles. (Author)
