Analysis of Thermally-Activated Flow in Iron, Molybdenum and Niobium.

Abstract

The temperature and shear strain rate dependences of the flow stresses measured for single crystals or polycrystals of alpha-iron, molybdenum, and niobium are compared on the basis of the thermal activation-strain rate analysis (TASRA). Of particular concern is the TASRA parameter, the 'activation volume', which is shown to follow a reciprocal dependence on the thermal component of shear stress, with fair accuracy.
