Induced Magnetospheric Electric Fields.

Abstract

The goal of the research is to understand and quantitatively model electric fields induced in the magnetosphere by changes in the magnetospheric magnetic field. It will then be possible to self consistently study particle and field behavior in a dynamic model of the magnetosphere. The most important sources of induced electric fields in the magnetosphere are changes in the tail magnetic field associated with substorms and magnetic storms and the daily wobble of the earth's main field due to the inclination of the dipole axis to the earth's rotation axis.
