Field Evaluation of Time-Dependent Geodetic Data.

Abstract

With the proliferation of new geodetic techniques involving time-dependent variables, it becomes increasingly difficult for the operational teams to answer to their own satisfaction the question 'Are we getting meaningful data.' The newly emerging theodolites and devices operating with photosensitive reticles are good examples of this. These devices will be disgorging an enormous amount of data consisting of time records of celestial events crossing various portions of the reticle. It appears that a quick evaluation of these time crossings to determine if they follow any generally acceptable pattern could easily be done using a type of differencing. This evaluation could be performed in a timely enough fashion to permit real-time evaluation of the data. This would minimize the need for site reoccupation at a later date. (Author)
