The Cost of Impact of a Longer Career for the USAF Line Officer Force: A Steady State Approach.

Abstract

The objective of the thesis was to examine the effects of variation in career length of Air Force officers on total personnel costs. Personnel cost consists of basic pay, quarters allowance, pilot training costs, navigator training costs, nonrated training costs, procurement costs, and retirement costs. More specifically the objective was to examine the degree to which these individual elements effect the total personnel cost as career length is increased. A secondary objective was to evaluate the cost of various retirement proposals and their subsequent effect on the total cost of the personnel force.
