225- TO 400-MHz Cavity-Backed Dipole with almost Constant Gain,

Abstract

A circularly polarized radiating element with a gain of 10.5 plus or minus 1 dB over the 225- to 400-MHz band is described. The antenna consists of an open-sleeve dipole backed by a cavity 56 in. in diameter and 14.8 in. high. VSWR, axial ratio, pattern, and gain characteristics are presented. The measurements were made on a half-scale model, and all results are referred to the 450- to 800-MHz frequency band. (Author)
