Research for Determining Propagation Characteristics over ARPA's Norwegian Array. Part 2

Abstract

The report consists of an introduction in which journal reference is given for a major study concerned with the velocity distribution of the Scandinavian shield. In this published study, the errors of observation for the dispersion data were propagated into uncertainty estimates for the inverted crustal models for the first time. Refraction measurements of P and S velocities were used as a constraint during the inversion. The resulting models for Scandinavia give some indication of velocity inversions at the base of the sialic portion of the crust, at the base of the crust, and in the uppermost few tens of kilometers of the mantle. Additional recent research related to the Norwegian seismic array is also described.
