Investigations and Exploitations of Non-Linear Effects in Underwater Acoustics,

Abstract

The paper surveys and discusses published work on the generation of sound by so-called non-linear effects. It concludes with some suggestion for further work whose purpose would be to improve understanding of the mechanisms. Two possible applications derive from the potential to produce highly directional beams and to provide early warning of the presence of a target. (Author)
