Control Aspects of Naturally Commutated Cycloconverters for Aircraft Use.

Abstract

The report describes the design and performance of cycloconverter constructed for laboratory work: its design was governed by the requirements which apply to aircraft electrical power generating systems. For simplicity circuits giving a single-phase output of 13.3 kVA, 400 Hz were used. The control techniques necessary were investigated and ways of reducing generator frame size are suggested. The output of the experimental model has fast acting, precise voltage content. Aspects for further work are indicated, particularly with regard to improving voltage modulation and operation on overloads. (Author)
